Melissa Gilbert--Principal

Ms. Gilbert is in her third year as principal at Ackerman Elementary. Before coming to Ackerman, she spent four years as the principal of Johnson School of the Arts in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

A Nebraska native, Ms. Gilbert was born in Omaha and raised in North Platte. She graduated from the University of Nebraska-Kearney.

Ms. Gilbert has a 13 year-old son, Cole. She also has a dog named Divot. When she is not at school, she likes to make jewelry, shop, and spend time with her family.

Dawn Marten --Assistant Principal

Mrs. Marten is beginning her administrative career at Ackerman Elementary School. She graduated from Millard South High School and has spent her entire educational career in Millard, first as a classroom teacher and most recently as the MEP Staff Development Facilitator.

Mrs. Marten graduated from the University of Nebraska at Omaha where, as a CADRE teacher, she earned her first master's degree in curriculum and instruction and her second master's degree in educational administration. She is currently working on a doctoral degree in educational administration and supervision.

During free time, she enjoys spending time with her husband Jeremy and her dog Henry, a fluffy Maltese. She also enjoys reading, shopping and warm weather.
